Parks in mind: as close to nature as possible

Updated: Dec 17, 2018

Find out about my trip to Boscombe to visit the 'Parks in Mind' foundation in full swing. As close to nature as you can get, it really opens your mind to natural healing.

The Volunteers and Organiser (far left) having a well deserved tea break before they get back to cutting down those trees!

Today I visited Shelley Park in Boscombe, Bournemouth to meet the volunteers and organisers of the ‘Parks in Mind.’ Jointly created by Bournemouth Borough council, Public Health Dorset and the Bournemouth Parks Foundation, the programme invites people from all walks of life to get involved in activities nature related to help benefit their mental and physical health all alongside helping the environment too.

I spent a morning with the team finding out about what they do whilst in action, having a go myself and having a well-deserved tea break (with biscuits of course!). Today the volunteers were cutting down foregin trees which are engulfing our native trees which we need, so learning about what different plant species do and whether they are good or not was really interesting. The atmosphere from the get go felt relaxing, with everything done at your own pace.

With a lovely setting in the park with the sea air filling your lungs, I came away feeling refreshed and positive. It’s amazing what the great outdoors can do!

Take a look at my documentary to find out more.
